Holidays in Galena

It sure is looking like Christmas here at The Goldmoor, all we need to complete it is a blanket of fresh snow, which "they" say we will get tonight! The town of Galena, and Jo Daviess County as a whole, are very festive this time of year. The downtown street lights are adorn with garlands and bows, the nativity scene is on display on the river bank and Holiday music is playing throughout the shops.

We are celebrating the season in a very special way this year, with our Goldmoor Christmas Carol Dinners. The Goldmoor Carolers will be providing an evening full of entertainment while guests indulge in a gourmet five course meal including prime rib, Cornish game hen and Yorkshire pudding.

The annual Mistletoe Ball will be held at historic Turner Hall on Saturday, December 4th starting at 6:30pm. There will be a resplendent Holiday feast with a grand ball to follow. Reservations are required. www.GalenaHistoryMuseum.com

Fiber Wild would like to teach you how to make your own knit Holiday ornaments! They will be teaching knitting in the round with double point needles and at the end of the session you will have a new ornament for your tree. Reservations are required.

Of course the Christmas season wouldn't be complete without a visit from Santa! He will be visiting Benjamin's on Main Street for lunch on December 11, 12, 18, 19 ans 24. Reservations requested.

Out little town will be aglow with thousands of flickering candles on Saturday, December 18th, the Night of the Luminaria. Several establishments in Galena will be offering special events on this night. The Galena Carriage company will be available for rides through town to take in the beauty of it all. Here at The Goldmoor we will be hosting a Luminaria Progressive Dinner which will include stops of three of the finest bed and breakfasts in Galena.

On Saturday December 11th watch the Main Street store windows come to life as carolers stroll the candlelight sidewalks. Live windows will be on display at various locations throughout Main Street. Be sure to wear your ugly Christmas sweater while out enjoying the live windows as there will be a contest for the "best" one!

If you are looking for a more active trip to Galena you can hit the slopes at Chestnut Mountain Resort, which happens to be just up the hill from The Goldmoor. Chestnut has been blowing snow since November 23rd and currently have 13 or their 19 runs open.

We hope your Holiday season is full of family, friends and laughter no matter what you decide to do while in Galena!
